Qormi Seiko 30

Luxol Vodafone 57

(9-15)(4-13)(11-10)(6-13)

Luxol registered their third seasonal victory over the bottom club Qormi, and kept on their way for a place in the play offs. They found resistance from Qormi in the early stages, but at the end of the second session they ran up an 11-0 run, starting off with an Alexia Jones trey, and at the interval they had structured their lead to a 28-13 score.

After the break Qormi came back well, and a 9-2 run gave them a closer deficit, but Luxol remedied matters, and a series of free throws restored another good lead, at 38-24.

The final quarter saw Qormi share the play once more, and even produce a trey by Fiona Micallef. Luxol took the match in hand again till the end of the game, and a 9-0 run gave them a more emphatic score in favour, for Luxol’s fourth league win.

Qormi: 12 Fiona Micallef

Luxol: 13 Alexia Jones, 10 Amanda Sciortino

Referees: Alfred Carbonaro, Mark Camilleri.

Deprio Still 71

Kerygma 62

(24-12)(16-9)(17-14)(14-27)

The champions keep chasing the league leaders, but Kerygma produced a grand finish to make it an enjoyable game, which satisfied both teams.

A strong Depiro opening gave them an early lead, although Kerygma recovered till the end of the session. Depiro continued pressing in the second session, but had to withstand another Kerygma fight back in the latter stages.

At the interval the champions held a 40-21 advantage.

After the break, after a brief Kerygma spurt, and a Josette Calleja trey, Depiro took over once more, but Kerygma still had fight in them, to reduce the deficit once more. After three sessions it was a 57-35 match. The final quarter produced a spate of points.

Play was shared at the start, as Depiro kept their lead, with their bench players, but Kerygma then took over, with a good 16-0 run, which made it a very close match, at 66-59. Rachel Camilleri’s trey killed off Kerygma’s run and Depiro could see out the game, for their third seasonal win over Kerygma.

Depiro: 25 Dorianne Galea, 15 Rosanne Falzon

Kerygma: 18 Renette Debono, 14 Josette Calleja

Referees: Steve Gouder, Jennifer Mangion.

Naxxar Danone 46

Hibs Go Mobile 67

(6-22)(15-14)(15-14)(10-17)

Hibs kept up their unbeaten league sequence, this time with a win over Naxxar who have inflicted their only seasonal defeat so far. The Paolites’ first session dominance dictated the match, as Naxxar found it hard to get back within reach in the remaining three sessions.

Hibs had a great start to the game, with a 14-2 run, and Naxxar could only reply in stutters, as Hibs continued to increase their lead.

In the second quarter, after a further increase by Go Mobile, Naxxar finally settled down, and managed a positive ending, although Hibs were still leading 36-21 at the interval.

After the break a brief Naxxar run was halted by the Paolites, as they notched up an 11-2 break of their own. Danone ended the session on a good note, but they couldn’t get near enough, on a 36-50 third session score.

The final quarter saw Hibs make sure at the start, with Naxxar making a spirited recovery, but they had four to go, and Hibs closed out the game, with Naxxar more intent on attack.

Naxxar: 22 Annie Jetcheva, 12 Irene Farrugia.

Hibs: 19 Alexis Darmanin, 11 Doreen Parnis.

Referees: Stephen Micallef, Alfred Carbonaro.
