A Carnival football tournament for nursery teams in the Under-11 Under-12 and Under-13 categories is being staged for the fourth year running by the Sliema Wanderers F.C. Nursery on the 5,6, 7 and 8 February. For this tournament, 24 teams from several established local nurseries are taking part, with a total participation of 386 boys. A total of 52 matches will be played on the artificial turf pitch of St Aloysius Sports Complex.

The tournament is being played on a nine-a-side basis for the categories Under-11 and Under-12 while the Under-13 category is being played on an 11-a-side basis. Together with the hosts, the nurseries of Birkirkara. Hamrun Spartans, Melita, Mosta, Paola Hibs, Pieta’ Hotspurs, San Gwann. St Andrew’s, St Patrick and Valletta are taking part in the various categories.

The tournament, the first edition of which was played in 2002, grew in popularity and established itself as one of the best local tournaments organised on the Island.

After the encouraging response that was received from all the participating teams in the past two editions, the Sliema Nursery, for the third year running, decided to hold the tournament at the impressive facilities of St Aloysius’ Sports Complex. These facilities offer all participating boys the best opportunity to express their best technical abilities, thus continuing on the same footsteps of the Youth FA to contribute in improving the level of the local game.

The organising committee is inviting all followers of the local game to support the best young talent on the island by watching the games on the days of the event.
