Birkirkara beat Mosta to join Hibs on top of the standings, though still having a match in hand.

On the other hand, Melita consolidated their third placing after a narrow victory over bottom placed St Venera.

In the first match, Birkirkara registered their second win this season over Mosta with a 2-0 scoreline.

Birkirkara showed complete superiority and Mosta offered little resistance.

After Cathrine Camilleri and Deborah Pisani missed glaring opportunities in front of goal, it was Rebecca D’Agostino who received the ball from a throw in and advanced to beat goalie Karen Camilleri.

The Stripes scored their second goal early in the second half. The scorer was Cathrine Camilleri who received a freekick from Chantal Fenech to beat Karen Camilleri in the Mosta goal.

Before the end, Birkirkara missed other chances through Cathrine Camilleri and D’Agostino while Jane Coates had a late effort for Mosta going over.

In the second match, Melita had to wait till the last moments to clinch their win against St Venera.

It was the second time in as many matches that they won a match in the final seconds. Last week they beat Raiders in a similar fashion.

Melita assaulted the St Venera fort for the duration of the match, but found stiff resistance from the Saints, especially from goalie Claire Ciappara who played a blinder between the Saints’ sticks.

Nadia Micallef and Ingrid Vassallo missed good chances for Melita, but otherwise, they were not given much chance and had to rely on a last-gasp penalty for a bad foul on Jackie Ellul Soler to achieve their win as the same Soler converted from the spot-kick to finally beat Ciappara.
