Marsa and St George’s obtained a deserved point following a four-goal thriller.

The result is a fair one, with Marsa having the better in the opening stages but with the Saints dominating for long stretches in the second half.

Marsa’s Gilbert Martin and Ewurun for St George’s were surely the best players on the pitch, both of them scoring a brace for their side.

Marsa were more determined in the early stages and the Saints’ goalkeeper was called in action on several occasions. He effected a very good save off a Gilbert Martin header. Gatt was again called in action saving an Alan Mifsud shot from the edge of the area.

The Saints had their good moments with Darmanin and Brincat working their way in midfield and with Ewurun always dangerous with his speed.

Marsa took the lead on 34 minutes when Gilbert Martin headed home a perfect Johann Zammit cross from the right. The Saints’ reaction was an immediate one and they obtained the equaliser six minutes later through a breath taking goal scored by Ewurun who beat Elvin Attard with a perfect lob from an acute angle.

Just before the break, St, George’s almost went ahead but Attard saved well Darmanin’s dangerous freekick.

Marsa took the lead again at the start of the second half when Gilbert Martin finished off in style a fast counter break, with the Marsa striker dribbling past Gatt before scoring.

The Saints hit back with shots from Darmanin missing the crossbar and with coach Darmanin introducing Johan Spiteri and Trevor Thomas to give more punch in attack. And the equaliser was obtained on 68 minutes with an Ewurun shot, deflected by a defender completely deceiving goalkeeper Attard.

The Saints insisted and surged forward in search for the winning goal, going very close with a thunderous freekick by Darmanin hitting the crossbar.

However on the other end Casha missed a sitter in front of goal following another fast break.
