Malta suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Moldova in its opener in the Davis Cup Europe/Africa Zonal Group IV (Group A) on Wednesday in the tournament being held in Uganda.

In the opening singles, Marcus Delicata went down 6-0 6-1 to Evghenji Plugjarjov and in the second, Andrei Ciumac defeated Daniel Ceross 6-2 6-1. In the doubles, Matthew Asciak and Marcus Delicata lost 6-3 6-7 6-1 to Serghei Cuptov/Astiom Podganij.
