Malta champion Alex Borg won the inaugural Mediterranean Cup yesterday when he beat Robert Stephen in the final 5-1.

It was an impressive win for the local favourite who started the day with a 3-1 last 16 stage win over Mark Boyle. Ha later won his quarter-final against Ian Gelhardt 3-1 and then went on to convincingly beat Lee Richardson 4-0 in a one-sided semi-final, during which Borg compiled a 133 which was the highest break of the tournament.

Today will see the start of the European team championship where the Malta Team A will be defending the title it won last year in Riga, Latvia.
