The Malta Amateur Athletic Association will be holding a Miniathlon event with a difference this coming weekend. This special edition of the Miniathlon, a series of athletic events with fun being the principal theme, is being held at the Matthew Micallef St. John Athletic Stadium on Saturday 12th March starting at 2.00pm.

Apart from the 150 or so young Maltese children, aged from 8 to 11 years, who have taken part in such events since last October, a group of 80-plus Greek children, hailing from a prominent school in Athens, will also be taking part in this special Miniathlon. All those boys and girls who had been taking part in the Miniathlon programme organised by the MAAA are therefore urged not to miss this opportunity to participate with children of their own age from this country originator of the noblest Olympic traditions.

Each young athlete under 11 years of age will be able to participate in four events that include the 50m sprint, a 300m ‘endurance’ run, Long Jump and a Ball Throw.

As among our visitors there will be some older athletes, the 100m, 600m, 800m, Long Jump and Shot for children between 11 and 12 years and others aged 13 and 14 years will also be organised. A local selection will be invited for these events. Every boy and girl who will be participating will be receiving a commemorative medal and certificate made up especially for this occasion.

The whole contingent of visiting Greek children will be 200 strong and apart from those taking part in athletics, others will be participating in basketball, volleyball, football and swimming.
