Luxol kept up their good work, after beating champions Depiro, and recorded their fourth victory over Qormi this season.

The game had an explosive start with baskets from both sides inside the first 25 seconds. Luxol went on to lead after the first session.

The second quarter was short on points but Qormi were the hardest hit, as the Violets kept on increasing their lead. At the halfway mark it was a 35-15 match.

After the break Luxol once more opened up with a 10-0 run before Qormi could put in their contribution, but Luxol were still dictating as their lead had increased to a 57-20 score.

The final quarter finally saw Qormi having a positive run, on a 7-0 run, ending with a Denise Micallef trey. Luxol then took over once more and starting off with Kirsten Micallef’s second trey, they finished off the match on an 8-0 run.

Fresh from their Louis Borg Cup success, Depiro had a quieter time in their victory over Kerygma, as they consolidated their second place. Kerygma kept pace at first as Depiro had their “Sicilian” players missing, along with injured Raquel Tryon.

Kerygma even managed to lead after the first session, then in the second quarter Depiro started taking over, and a good 17-2 break pushed them clear in front. Kerygma recovered till the end of the session, and at the interval it was a 37-27 Depiro lead.

After the break Kerygma passed through a good patch, to creep near again, but Dorianne Galea then put in personal points and Depiro were clear once more.

With a session to go it was a 57-41 match, and the champions could control the game till the end in a low-score quarter. This was Depiro’s fourth success over Kerygma this season.

Hibs made sure of the top placing in the group, and the game bonus in the play offs, beating a depleted Naxxar side, who seem to have evaded the dreaded fourth place.

The Paolites had a strong start to the game, with a 14-5 run and they held their lead till the end of the session. Hibs then controlled the second quarter, as Naxxar, minus Irene Farrugia, Claire Hawkins and Annabel Busuttil, failed to get any nearer. At the interval it was a 30-20 game.

After the break Naxxar seemed to have recovered but Hibs took the game firmly in hand, and a strong 16-0 run with personal Lucienne Bezzina points, pushed the Paolites clear of their opponents.

Naxxar didn’t recover enough and Hibs could start the last quarter with eased minds. A Beverlee Zammit trey complicated things further for Naxxar, who however rallied at the end, although Hibs concluded through further Bezzina points. Hibs are now clear in front in the standings.
