Over 700 ICT Students register for their free Oracle software

As part of the agreement with Oracle Corporation, the Investment, Industry and Information Technology Ministry offered the opportunity to all ICT students to acquire the Oracle Database 10g Software for free during a briefing session held at the Malta College for Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST), Paola.

Hundreds of students who attended the briefing session had the opportunity to discuss their educational and employment prospects in the ICT industry with the ministry, Oracle and Bank of Valletta representatives.

During the presentation, Isabelle Bonello, senior manager at the information society secretariat, highlighted that the capabilities and talents of the ICT students play an important role in making Malta an ICT centre of excellence. Adding that through this successful partnership with Oracle, students will be able to attain Oracle certifications that are so in demand by employers within this sector. Furthermore, ICT students will also be provided with the opportunity to gain work experience within the IT industry during the summer period.

Orfhlaith Nichorcora, director Educational Initiatives (EMEA) Oracle and Kevin Attard managing director Oracle (Malta) briefed the students on Oracle’s commitment in using technology to deliver innovation in education and in developing the next generation of learners and leaders. Oracle’s effort lays in investing within educational programmes and learning activities with the aim of equipping students to be able to meet the challenges of today’s information and knowledge age.

After the session, over 700 students from MCAST, University of Malta, Swatar Training Centre and Executrain registered for the Oracle Database 10g Software and Self-Study Guide package which will be free to all ICT students. The Oracle Database 10g software and Self-Study Guide package includes 3 CDs – Oracle Database 10g CD Windows, Oracle Database 10g Companion CD Windows and Oracle Database 10g Self-Study Guide.

All ICT students that are interested in acquiring the free software package are requested to register through their respective institutions.
