An exhibition of hand-painted icons, inspired by icons from various periods of time, is being held by Peter Howitt at Vee Gee Bee, Republic Street, Valletta up to 7 April.
Peter started painting icons in the film industry. In those days it was too expensive to buy original icons so he painted them for various films such as Mary Queen of Scots, Anne of a Thousand Days and Beckett. As soon as the film was over, these icons were an instant sell out.
Peter, the recipient of two Oscars, has also been nominated for another six Oscars for various set designs he has worked on throughout his career.
