Robert Aquilina says police wanted names of sources in interrogation on Pilatus book

Tuesday, 3 June 2025, 17:40 Last update: about 2 years ago

Robert Aquilina said that police wanted the names of his sources during an interrogation regarding a book he wrote on Pilatus Bank.

"As I announced yesterday, this afternoon I was interrogated at the depot regarding what I revealed two years ago in the book Pilatus," Aquilina said on Tuesday.

On Monday afternoon, Aquilina shared online that he had just received a phone call from local police from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to be questioned on what he revealed in his book published in 2023 titled, "Pilatus: A Laundromat Bank in Europe." The Police had informed Aquilina that Tuesday's interrogation was ordered by Magistrate Nadine Sant Lia, Aquilina said on Monday.

On Tuesday, Aquilina said: "The only aim of the Police was to discover who the sources were through which I was able to reveal what the inquiry into Pilatus Bank had found and the manoeuvres carried out by the Police Commissioner and the Attorney General for the orders of the Magistrate who led the inquiry to be ignored," he said, referring to individuals mentioned in the inquiry not being prosecuted.

Aquilina said he did not provide any information about his sources and exercised his right to protect their identity.

"It is highly relevant that during the interrogation the Police confirmed that the evidence I published in the book and presented in Court matches what is in the original inquiry. This is yet another confirmation-this time from the Police themselves-that there is nothing but the truth in the book Pilatus. I thank you all for your support and my lawyers Dr. Kris Busietta and Dr. Arthur Azzopardi for their invaluable assistance during the interrogation," Aquilina said.

Aqulina last Sunday resigned the post of Repubblika honorary president of Repubblika after he was questioned by the police in connection with a domestic incident. He denies any wrongdoing.
