Malta national coach Mark Miller will probably adopt a highly cautious approach in this afternoon’s encounter against Croatia in Zagreb.

After their recent good performances in friendly matches, the local boys are well aware that today’s task is completely different.

In fact, apart from being a competitive encounter, the young Maltese will be facing the Group 8 leaders who, after four matches, have a 100 per cent record, that is, four victories.

Malta has just three points from its opening four matches and Miller will possibly be aware that the home side will be eager to win another three points today after they beat Iceland 2-1 last Friday. A victory, in fact, will consolidate their top spot in the Group and the Croatians would then be close to qualifying for the finals.

There is no doubt that the local boys are well prepared physically, but they will have to show maximum concentration to try and keep the Croatians at bay.

Miller is not making any radical changes to the sides which he lined-up in the recent friendlies.

In defence, it will be Reuben Gauci between the posts while those in front of him will be Alex Muscat and Sean Bajada on the flanks with Ryan Mintoff and Shaun Tellus in the middle.

In midfield, Miller has Mauro Brincat absent. He will therefore start with Gareth Sciberras, Christian Cassar, Andrei Agius and Roderick Bajada, with Agius having recovered from an injury.

In attack, Cleaven Frendo will start alongside Andre Schembri.

The match is to start at 4pm.
