Task Force On illegal immigration set up

The Task Force on illegal immigration has finally been set up, the Home Affairs Ministry announced yesterday.

A spokesman for the ministry said that the minister had been awaiting the two appointments to be made by the NGOs and they have finally been appointed.

They are Dr Katrine Camilleri, representoing the Jesuit Refugee Services and Dr Ruth Farrugia, representing the Emigrants Commission.

The other members of the Task Force include Dr Tonio Borg, Dr Gavin Gulia and the Commissioner of Police.

The Task Force is scheduled to hold its first meeting this coming week. It is due to begin studying the recommendations made at the recent national conference on illegal immigration and to discuss what should be the national policy in this regard.
