As in previous years, Birkirkara St Joseph Sports Club will be holding a series of six open sea swimming events during the summer months. All events, except the one held in July, will be on a distance of two kilometres.
The July race will be four kilometres long in preparation for the Club-organized Gozo-Malta Open Sea Swim to be held on Saturday, 23 July. The open sea swimming series calendar is the following.
Wednesday 22 June at 6.30pm from the Bognor Beach Club in Bugibba; Wednesday 29 June at 6.30pm from the Sliema ASC pitch; Wednesday 13 July at 5.30pm from the San Giljan ASC in St. Julian’s; Wednesday 10 August at 6.00pm from the Marsascala ASC; Wednesday 17 August at 6.00pm from the Bognor Beach Club in Bugibba; and Wednesday 7 September at 6.00pm from St. George’s Bay (opposite the Al Fresco Restaurant) in Birzebbuga.
The 4.9 kilometre Gozo-Malta Open Sea Swim, which is not part of this series of races, will start from Hondoq ir-Rummien at a time which will be communicated by the club at a later date.
Last year’s winners in the Open Sea Swimming Series were Nicky Farrugia and Tara Baldacchino. Nicky Farrugia was also the winner in the Gozo-Malta event, while Nicole Cremona was the first lady to reach Cirkewwa.
