The second Globalair Travel Malta Youth Open Championships continued at the Eden SuperBowl on Friday, after Thursday’s doubles competition, where Malta took first place thanks to Mauro Anastasi and Matthew Caruana in the U-24 category, and also second in the U-18’s with Nicky Sammut and Rankin Camilleri.

The Singles event was played in four separate categories (male and female U-18’s and U-24’s), and Malta’s success came in the last session of the day from a total of four, with Matthew Caruana totalling 1,270 pins from six games (211.6 average) to win the U-24 male category. Mauro Anastasi played a solid 1,167 set (194.5 average) to claim second place, this after having rolled a fantastic 1329 set in the doubles the previous day.

Rankin Camilleri took third place in the male U-18 category with his good 1,097 pin tally (182.8 average), while fourth place went to Nicky Sammut who came in just three pins behind Camilleri on 1094 pins.

In the female categories, while our best performance in the U-18’s came from Tiziana Carannante who took a respectable fourth place with 972 pins (162 average), our girls fared better in the U-24’s with Amanda Cini and Lorraine clinching first and second place, well ahead of the field on 1,172 (195.3 average) and 1,153 (192.1 average) respectively. Pam Demauele managed to place fourth in the same category (1046, 174.3 average).
