Pool: Cuschieri And Falzon win national titles

The national singles championships came to an end last week with the two finals of the Open and Juniors categories being played at Pandora Hall Zejtun.

In the open category Antoine Cuschieri (picture) left his mark after beating team counterpart Clayton Attard in the final.

Cuschieri showed more concentration and with a great and skillfull performance outclassed Attard with a convincing 8-2 score.

Through this victory Cuschieri has moved into the top spot of the national rankings. This was the fourth and final ranking tournament of the season and this victory and number one spot earned Cuschieri the Maltese seeding in the coming World Pool Championships that are being played in June in Blackpool.

The first eight players in the national ranking list, who will be representing Malta in the these championships are Antoine Cuschieri 860 points, Clayton Attard 850 points, Ray Demanuele 750 points, Duncan Bezzina 610 points, Ivan Rizzo 580 points, Mario Brincat 545 points, Kevin Mercieca 530 points and Mario Vassallo with 520 points.

In the juniors category Miguel Falzon registered a national record after winning his fourth consecutive ranking tournament of the season. In the final of the fourth juniors’ tournament, Falzon had the better of Jurgen Attard by 6-2.

Falzon’s skills and performance were at top notch during the whole season and his future in the pool scene looks very bright.

The first six players of the national juniors ranking list, who will be representing Malta in the Juniors category of the World Championships in Blackpool are Miguel Falzon 1,200 points, Jurgen Attard 695 points, Shawn Agius 650 points, Wayne Farrugia 570 points, Malcolm Azzopardi and Clint Chircop 500 points.
