Cycling – Tour Of Malta: Maltese Australian places third overall

David Treacy, the Maltese Australian cyclist with Mosta AF Sign Studio Cycling Club, placed a respectable third place overall at the end of the Tour of Malta yesterday.

Treacy, who is trying to gain qualification for the Maltese Cycling team in the next Small Nations Games, clocked a time of 5:56:24.

The Tour was won by Englishman Roy Chamberlain, clocking 5:55:03. Second was Mark Mkay.

In the Women’s category, German cyclist Catherina Blum of Charlottenburg was the overall winner with 4:50:32.

Stefania Magri was best Maltese female overall with 5:12:52. Second best placed was Danica Spiteri (5:12:52), followed by Graziella Muscat (5:27:11).

Yesterday’s last stage of the Tour, from Mgarr to Sliema was won by Italian Alessandro Mansueto in the men’s category while Catherina Blum showed her superiority winning also yesterday among the ladies.

Dermot Galea was the first Maltese man in yesterday while Stefania Magri was the first Maltese woman to finish the race.

The Tour of Malta proved to be once again a successful event.
