Local champion Alex Borg of Melita Band Club, Msida, and Simon Zammit of Jesmond Sports Club of Hamrun, are to face each other in the final of the national Premier League organized by the Malta Billiards and Snooker Association and sponsored by Cisk Lager.

In the semi-finals, Borg beat Clint Grima 6-2 while Zammit defeat seasoned campaigner Guzi Grech 6-4.

In the Borg-Grima match, Borg took a 3-1 interval lead with the help of breaks of 47 and 53. On the resumption, Borg won another two frames rolling other breaks of 92 and 54. Grima, in his first semi-final, managed to win the seven frame with a 56 break, but Borg won the eight frame to make sure of qualifying for the final.

In the second semi-final, Zammit also led 3-1 at the interval. He won the first frame, but Grech equalised. However, Zammit won the third and fourth frames with the help of a break of 44.

After the break, Grech reduced the deficit to 3-2, but Zammit won the sixth frame to make it a 4-2 score.

Grech hit back with breaks of 50 and 77 to level the score at 4-4, but Zammit went on to win the next two frames to book his place in the final with a 6-4 win.

Michael Farrugia and Charles Camilleri controlled the matches.

The final is being played tomorrow at the Peace Band Club, Naxxar, starting at 6.15pm. It is being played over a best of 13 frames. The referee will be Emeric Ellul.

Borg has already won the Malta title four times, but it will be his 12th appearance in the final. Zammit has one victory to his credit, but it will be his fourth appearance in the final.

In the MBSA ranking list, Borg is assured of finishing in top place for the fourth consecutive season. Zammit will finish second, Guzi Grech third and Arthur Cachia fourth.
