Wine And art at the old Le Roy haunt

Malta Independent Sunday, 1 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

A good glass of wine, a nice light meal and intriguing striking art with an African theme is the latest attraction at the Hotel Plevna, off Qui-Si-Sana, attracting hotel guests and patrons dropping in during the day, or to relax in the early evening.

The Plevna management has called its Café/Wine Bar the Le Roy. That was the name of the popular old hotel and restaurant which became part of the Plevna.

A warm atmosphere created by the parquet and all-wood furniture currently combines with a painting exhibition, presented in different mediums by C.S. Lawrence, an artist of Maltese and Irish descent. C.S. Lawrence was born in East Africa and spent her childhood in Nairobi and Mombasa. She moved to Malta in 2000 and has already exhibited her works here. Her paintings reflect in part a dynamic combination of her skills and her early upbringing and extensive travels.

Those at the Le Roy focus on men and women of North Africa and the Middle East, also catching the appreciative eye with their hint of mystery.

“A quiet, relaxing, yet stimulating atmosphere,” – this is the usual observation made by patrons of the Le Roy Café/Wine Bar.
