Malta Independent Wednesday, 4 May 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 22 years ago

The MFA Council has been presented next season's competition schedules for Premier, First, Second and Third Division clubs and Youths, as well as the calendar of international matches for season 2005-2006. It is envisaged that the Reserves league will be abolished.

The first round of the Premier League will be played entirely at the National Stadium, while only one second round match is programmed for the Centenary Stadium. For this end, the competition will start in the first weekend of August rather than late in that month or early September.

Matches between November 2005 and March 2006 will be played at the National Stadium, Hibernians Ground and Victor Tedesco Stadium. The second phase starts in mid-February while the league is due to come to an end on 14 May 2006.

The Euro Cup, the domestic curtain raiser to the season, will be played on the 4th and 6th July, while the Quadrangular Tournament, the former Super 5 Tournament, is scheduled between the 26th and 30th of December

The first round of the FA Trophy will be played at the Centenary Stadium between the end of October and the beginning of November, the second round in February, the quarter-finals in April 2006 and the semi-finals and final in May.

The First Division programme could be moved forward so that it will come to an end in mid-May and not at the end of April 2005.
