With Sliema Wanderers crowned champions for a record 26 times, and with LIja and St Patrick making a quick return to Division I, the Premier League comes to an end over the week-end with the second place issue still wide open.

The highlight of this last round of matches wil surely be tomorrow’s match between Birkirkara and Valletta, with the Citizens needing the three points at stake to pip Birkirkara from second place and assure of a UEFA Cup place next season.

On Sunday newly crowned Sliema wil celebrate against Hibernians who are still in search for a place in europe next season.

Today’s matches are of no real importance. In the first match from the relegation pool, Lija Athletic will bid farewell to the Premiership when they face Pieta, who only made last week when they demolished St Patrick. In the first round, Pieta emerged as winners hanks to a Stefan Zahra goal.

The second match is from the championship pool, and Floriana will face Marsaxlokk. The Greens will be seeking their first win in the championship pool, having lost all their matches except a draw result against Hibernians. In the first round the south seasiders won 1-0 with ex-Floriana player Shaun Bajada scoring the winner.

For Marsaxlokk this match could be used a drill for next Saturday’s semi-final against Msida St Joseph in the FA Trophy. Marsaxlokk will be doing their utmost to reach their second consecutive final in the Trophy, with a good chance of obtaining the passport to a european competition, after their debut last season.
