After a marathon run in the series Mosta recovered from a two-game defeat to win the title. They lasted this game better as Suns were unable to match their previous feats in their last two games.

Suns had a good start, and although Mosta recovered briefly, it was Suns, with a 7-2 run, starting with a Mark Schembri trey, who led 11-7. A Mosta rally, and an Oliver Sammut trey gave them a lead, but Suns lied at 13-13. In the last stages of the opening period Suns surged in front, but were pegged back by an Oliver Sammut trey, for a 20-18 lead.

In the second quarter Suns didn’t take long to extend their lead. Mosta reacted but Suns replied with a 7-0 run, and an Adrian Camilleri trey, for a 33-22 advantage. Mosta succeeded in cutting down their defeat till the end of the session, but Suns were still in front, on a 37-32 score.

After the break Mosta’s play improved and they put in a good 14-2 run, aided by Ray Muscat’s hoops, and they jumped in a 46-39 lead. Suns had a series of free shots to help them gain ground, but Mosta managed to open up their lead again by the end of the session. Score at 52-44 with a session to go.

Mosta had a good opening, and a Ray Muscat trey, pushed them to a maximum 58-46 lead. Suns rallied back and got within the distance again. Mosta held out, as Suns frantically tried to make up the necessary points. The time wound down to Mosta’s benefit. Suns couldn’t react enough and Mosta coasted through to their first First Division league win.
