Malta was drawn in Group C with holders Tunisia, Greece and Algeria in the preliminary round of the tournament which is reserved for Under-21 sides.

The Med Games this year are being held in Almeria, Spain between 24 June and 3 July.

Eleven teams are taking part in the football tournament: Algeria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Spain, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, Malta, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey. The three seeds were Italy, Spain and Tunisia.

The groups

Group A: Italy, Morocco and Libya.

Group B: Spain, turkey and Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Group C: Tunisia, Greece, Algeria and Malta

Group A matches will be played at the Estadio Antonio Peroles, Roquetas de Mar while Group B matches are to be at the Estadio de El Ejido. Group C matches will be held at the Estadio de Vícar.

The group matches will be played between June 24 and 29. The semi-finals are scheduled for 1 July while the final will be played on 3 July. The semi-finals and the final are to be played at the Estadio del Mediterraneo which has been labeled as the masterpiece of the Games.

It is to be remembered that Tunisia had won the last edition which was held in Tunis. They beat Italy 1-0 in the final.

Malta will be taking part with a contingent of about 50 including the football squad. It is also taking part in athletics, swimming, shooting, judo, table-tennis, wrestling and golf in the forthcoming event.
