The Malta Amateur Wrestling Federation is continually increasing its efforts in making its discipline more popular among youths by holding regular tournaments for them thanks the British Airways sponsorship.
The last tournament, also held at the gym of the Furtu Selvatico Trade School in Naxxar, again attracted a good number of cadets from three clubs who participated in no less than seven weight categories.
The team from Stella Maris College
led by instructor and teacher Manuel Cilia, is making its mark both in winning tournaments and in the number of youths it keeps presenting. As in the previous tournament, Stella Maris College again came first in the team classification with 39 points followed by Furtu Sevatico Trade School - Naxxar and Qawra Amateur Wrestling Club totalling 12 and 4 points respectively.
However it is fair to state that Qawra had a number of their youths missing due to sitting for their exams.
Matthew Vella and Luke Debono, both of Furtu Selvatico Trade School, were the two youths that showed the most progress since their last participation. On the other hand Winston Bartolo of Qawra A.W.C. again confirmed his potentiality of a good future in amateur wrestling.
