Burger King Celebrates its 10th anniversary in Malta

Burger King is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Malta with a charity event in aid of Caritas Malta in collaboration with the Valletta Local Council on Saturday 4 June at Freedom Square, Valletta. The event starts at 10am and ends at 8pm.

The public will have the opportunity to participate in a Charity Penalty Shoot Out against some top Maltese goalkeepers by donating Lm1 for three shots. Three out of three will earn the participant a free Burger King meal. This activity will run throughout the day and will be compèred by various local and TV personalities. Valletta mayor Dr Paul Borg Olivier will open this charity event by shooting the first ball at 10am.

This was announced during a press conference held at Burger King’s flagship restaurant in Valletta, which has recently been newly redecorated with a 1950s Americana diner theme.

“Burger King proudly celebrates its 10th successful year of operations in Malta. To thank the Maltese community for their continuous and loyal support, we decided to organise an event to raise money for Caritas Malta,” said Stefania Conte, general manager of BURGER KINGâ franchisee, Food Chain (Holdings) Limited.

“We have chosen to support Caritas in appreciation of their hardworking initiatives in our society. Moreover, Burger King will be donating 10 per cent of its total sales on 4 June to Caritas Malta,” she said.

Apart from supporting an important cause, the event will include a variety show and activities for people of all ages. “The highlight of the Charity Penalty Shoot-Out will be the special guest star, No.1 goalkeeper Davide Bertaccini from A.S. Cervia 1920/Campioni il Sogno, an Italian TV reality show, and his trainer Claudio Bozzini,” said Marco Debono, Burger King Marketing Executive. “Participants will putt their scoring skills to the test against 11 top goalkeepers that have been roped in for this charity event. These include Mario Muscat, Saviour Darmanin, Sean Sullivan, Ruben Debono, Ivan Casha, Matthew Camilleri, Daniel Denkaky, Manuel Bartolo, Simon Grech, Sandro Micallef and Jason Cordina.”

Other activities include face painting for children; Stompers Rugby Team truck pull; dog show; AFM rescue and abseiling by the Civil Protection, and local singers and compères, namely Hector Bruno, Claudette Pace, Marbeck Spiteri, Owen Bonnici, Peter Busuttil, Clint Spiteri, Alison & Analise Ellul, Joseph Chetcuti, Peppi Azzopardi, Carlo Borg Bonaci, Debbie Scerri, and Moira Delia.

While thanking Burger King and all the supporting companies involved in this event, Anglu Fenech, administrative secretary of Caritas Malta said: “The day will definitely be full of fun and exciting. Not only rewarding for winning participants, but Caritas will also benefit. The event will help to raise funds for us to continue our work in the Maltese community.”

Caritas Malta focuses its efforts on working at grass roots level with people in need to alleviate different aspects of poverty. It does this through its many programmes and services such as: Drug Rehabilitation; counselling and Social Work Interventions; Usury; Support Groups; Helpage; Prevention Education in Schools; Xefaq Services in connection with HIV/STIs and Diaconia at Parish level.

All participants in the competition will receive a free Powerade, until stock lasts. The Burger King Charity Penalty Shoot Out is also being supported by Golden Tulip Vivaldi Hotel, Coco-Cola, Powerade, Capital Radio, High-Enterprises Limited, Millennia, Alitalia Airlines, Logografix Signs, San Michel Fruit Waves, Urban Jungle, Nexos Lighting Technology, Middlesea Group, Di-ve.com and The Malta Independent on Sunday.
