The Malta team of Simon Gerada and Andrezej Makowski registered two victories and a defeat yesterday as they remained in sight of the gold medal.
The Maltese team, at one time playing in front of the MOC President Mr Justice Lino Farrugia Sacco and the general secretary Joe Cassar, had a great start when they beat Monaco easily 3-0.
But in the second match against Iceland, the Maltese pair were shocked as they succumbed to an unexpected defeat, which left them in an awkward position.
In fact, they had to beat Cyprus to make sure they would advance to the semi-finals where they were expected to meet the winners of the other Group.
