Malta champion Alex Borg and finalist Simon Zammit have both qualified to the last 32 knock-out stage of the 2005 European Snooker Championships currently being played in Ostrow, Poland when they won their last group match with a convincing score of 4-0.

Borg who had already qualified for the knock-out stage, maintained his unbeaten run in the championships when he beat Piotr Murat of Poland for his seventh consecutive win and thus claiming the no. 1 spot in Group B. Borg is one of four players who maintained their 100 per cent record after the group stages have been played.

Meanwhile, from Group E, Simon Zammit had to win his last match against Lasse Munstermann of Germany who had been also unbeaten going into this final match in Group E. But with a splendid display he beat Munstermann 4-0 for his fourth win from seven matches. Zammit finished fourth in the group on same points as Douglas Hogan of Switzerland but it was the Maltese who made it to the last 32 with a better frame difference.

The last 32 matches had to be played yesterday evening. Borg was drawn to play Rafal Jewtuch of Poland while Simon Zammit had to play David Morris of the Republic of Ireland.

The other two Maltese players taking part in the Seniors event, Paul Galea and Tony Mifsud were both eliminated from the group and failed to make the knock-out stages.
