Pembroke Athleta Football Nursery organised two major events in one week last month.

Fourteen teams took part in a floodlit tournament for the Under 12, Under 8 and Under 6 age groups.

The respective winners were Pembroke, Mosta and Mosta.

The second event, a week later, was the annual football marathon which brought to an end this year’s football season.

After a Thanksgiving Mass by Fr Anton Portelli, the parish priest, children were divided in different teams and participated in five-a-side games in a mini festival.

The children also took part in other events such as tug of war and penalty shoot-outs where the special guest was former national team goalie Ernest Barry.

A ladies match (for parents) was also organised as well as other matches with the participation of former top footballers Carmel Busuttil and John Buttigieg who showed they have lost nothing of their skills.

Tourism Minister Dr Francis Zammit Dimech visited the ground and joined in the fun, sampling the special Maltese food available.

Pepsi and Paradise Bay Hotel sponsored the event.

The Nursery advises that application forms for this summer’s football school, conducted by qualified coaches and special guests, together with forms for new registrations for next season, are available at the sports club in Pembroke after 7pm.
