Maltese snooker player Alex Borg yesterday beat David Morris of Ireland 6-3 in the semi-final, to reach the 2005 European Mens’ Championships final being held in Poland.

Ironically Morris had eliminated other Maltese player Simon Zammit in the last 32 stage and this was therefore sweet revenge for the Maltese champion.

After losing the first frame, Borg recovered well to win the next three consecutive frames and take the lead.

Although Morris pulled one back at 3-2, Borg won the next two frames, lost the eighth one but finally won the last to make it a 6-3 victory.

Scores of frames (Borg first) were: 23-82, 61-28, 63-13, 63-0, 22-70, 71(46)-62, 60-26, 6-66, 79 (41)-23.

Today, Alex Borg will play Kristjan Helgason from Iceland, winner 6-5 over Irishman Mark Allen, in the final over two sessions.

The first starts at 11am and the second at 6pm, bringing to an end these Championships.

Malta was also represented by Paul Galea and Tony Mifsud in the Seniors event, both eliminated at the group stage.
