UEFA Cup participants have ruled out signing any new Nigerians to join their ranks as foreign players from outside the EU.

Club chairman Victor Zammit said yesterday they could not afford to meet the requests presented by striker Haruna Doda. "That is why we decided to terminate his contract."

The Stripes still have defender/midfielder Precious Monye among their ranks. The latter was one of their best players the past season. He is at present enjoying a holiday in Nigeria, and on his return on 19 June, he is expected to have talks to see whether it is possible to extend his contract. Zammit said the club is keen to have him playing in the side once again.

Zammit said he and the club's directors would not be rushed into making their final selection on the foreigners to play for the club next season. "So far there is nothing concrete. We will definitely be on the lookout, but it is still early to make such important decisions. In any case, our commitment in the UEFA Cup is way back in August," he added.
