The 14th annual Malta Open Championships will be held at the Eden SuperBowl, St. Julian’s between the 15th and 19th June – five days of top class tenpin bowling from close to 250 international sportsmen and women. This year’s participants hail from no less than 21 different nations as diverse as Canada, Russia, Azerbaijan and Hungary, as well as European countries such as Sweden, Germany, Italy, The British Isles and Switzerland among others.

This year’s edition forms part of the European Bowling Tour as established back in 2000, and which is organised by the European Tenpin Bowling Federation in order to decide yearly European ranking classifications.

The Open has formed part of the tour since its inception when a mere nine European events were included. For 2005 that figure has shot up to 20 events, with only one other tournament, Finland’s Ballmaster Open, having been also included since the very first tour. “Any tournament’s inclusion in the EBT is a definite status symbol, and we’re very proud that the Malta Open has been part of it from the very beginning”, stated Neil Dent, SuperBowl General Manager.

Competition will commence on Wednesday afternoon, with the male and female divisions being whittled down through the qualifying rounds until the final stages on Sunday, concluding with the typically thrilling step-ladder final. A host of past winners will be taking part, And Malta will again be well represented by national champions Sue Abela (2-time Malta Open Champion) and Brian Farrugia, along with Doris Camilleri and Melissa Anastasi, both of whom have Malta Open titles under their belts.
