The Centre Point National Championship came to a successful end recently.

The national championship consists of 12 races spread out over the months on November up to May. Riders are split up into age groups and have three rounds per race event.

After each leg, riders are given points according to their final position during races. At the end of the championship, (in May) the rider with the most accumulated points wins.

The very promising Jake Micallef won the 7-10 age group with 10 consecutive firsts, giving him a total of 124 points. For the second year running, Leon Zammit secured his victory with 132 points in the 10-13 age group, with Gabriel Borg coming in second with a very close 98 points.

As for the more experienced riders, the 13-16 age group this year saw the biggest number of participants, with a total of 21 racers. But when it came down to the rider with the most wins, Nathan John Mercieca took first place with 110 points, only 10 points ahead of Ryan Debono.

This year the over 16 age group also saw a large number of participants, who gave quite a show every race with riders crossing the finish line only centimetres from each other. David Camilleri secured his first place with 98 points, with Mark Filletti coming in second.

With the Centre Point National Championship over the B.M.X Association is now focusing on preparations for this summer’s big event, the ‘B.M.X Fest”. The B.M.X Fest is a three-day event which will be held towards the end of July.

The event will kick off with a fun ride from Ta’ Xbiex to Pembroke, stopping at various localities on the way promoting the weekend. The ride will officially kick off the weekend.

Throughout the three days various events such as, B.M.X Dirt, B.M.X Street, and B.M.X skills will take place. The weekend will then come to a close with a BBQ and presentation night for both the “B.M.X Fest” and the Centre Point National Championship.
