Malta Independent Wednesday, 15 June 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 12 years ago

The next five months will be a hectic period for the Malta Handball Association as the association will be participating in three major international events.

Between 5 and 10 July, the U/21 national side will be taking part in the Partille Cup in Sweden. This will be the first ever time that Malta will be represented in this event which last year saw the participation of 12,500 players forming part of 765 teams from 38 nations.

The players who will be forming part of the Maltese contingent are Andrew Mifsud, Philip Mifsud, Brandon Cascun, Daniel Tabone, Karl Muscat, Jacques Friggieri, Andrew Said, Mark Gilson, Brian Pace, Alan Caruana and Karl Borg.

Meanwhile, the U/17 national team will once again be participating in the 57th edition of the FISEC Games that will be held in Madrid, Spain. The Maltese team will surely be doing their utmost to improve upon the bronze medal that has been won in 2001, 2002 and 2004.

The contingent making it to Spain between 22 and 29 July is the following: Martin Pisani, Chris Magro, James Farrugia, Matthew Casha, Jerome Zammit, Dario Schembri, Mark Schembri, Neville Borg, Edward Bonello and Alessandro Zerafa.

The MHA’s next overseas commitment will then be towards the end of October when the men’s national team will be participating in the fourth edition of the EHF Challenge Trophy in Ireland.

Meanwhile, it has been revealed that the MHA has applied to organise the Women’s Challenge Trophy in Malta in April 2006. A final decision by the European Handball Federation is expected to be issued shortly.
