Local Football: Birkirkara FC Strengthen squad with the addition of two new players

Malta Independent Wednesday, 15 June 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

The returning Matthew Calascione will once again form part of the Birkirkara squad after he signed a two year contract with the Stripes.

He had not played for the club last season as he had gone to Australia.

On the other hand, goalkeeper Ivan Casha, previously of Marsa, Hamrun Spartans and lately Marsaxlokk, will also be joining Birkirkara, on loan for one season.

The goalie will be a replacement for Saviour Darmanin who was on loan till the end of last season from Pieta.

Club secretary John Borg yesterday said their number one goalie Justin Haber still had to conclude his new deal with the club.

Meanwhile, he confirmed that they have made enquiries with Msida SJ as to the possibility of signing Omar Borg, one of the best goalies in last season’s campaign.

And Borg also told The Malta Independent that Chucks Nwoko’s future at the club looked bleak as no agreement is yet in sight over the player’s demands.

A meeting is being held this evening between Sliema and Birkirkara and it is possible that the Wanderers might make a bid for Nwoko, offering Massimo Grima in return.
