For the seventh successive year, Kellogg’s, the nutritious breakfast cereal, was the main sponsor of the annual Skolasport Manifestation Day held recently at the Hibs ground in Kordin. Organised by Skolasport, one of the programmes administered by the Kunsill Mati ghall-iSport, this event brought to an end all activities in the Skolasport’s winter programme. Around 1,000 children and parents were present for this event.

This year, the Kellogg’s Skolasport Manifestation Day included circuit games, open sports activities and fitness sessions for parents.

J.Anvil provided musical entertainment and GymStars members gave a gymnastics performance.

The Kellogg’s Sports Manifestation Day was brought to an end with short speeches by Dr Louis Galea, Minister responsible for Sport, Mr Paul Tunney, Market Development Manager and Miss Jenny Xydeas, Consumer Development Manager of Mediterranean and CEE area, Kellogg Company.

Joe Cassar, Chief Executive Officer of Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport and Andrew Decelis, Euchar Camilleri and Katryn Borg, directors of the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport, were also present.

Dr Louis Galea said that the Skolasport programme which started off in 1987 as a government initiative and now being further developed by KMS is an example of government’s commitment towards making sport accessible to all and creating a sport culture in our country.

Mr Tunney presented the sponsorship for the next edition of Skolasport to Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport.

Medals were then presented to all the Skolasport’s participants. A lottery was also drawn among all participants.

As part of its long-term health-oriented strategy, the Kunsill Malti ghall-iSport distributed free fruit and water to all children and parents. Kellogg’s gave out cereal bars and other Kellogg’s material to all participants.

Over 1,200 students attended the Foundation, Participation and Performance programmes within Skolasport between October 2004 and May 2005. They trained every Saturday under qualified and experienced coaches at different sport venues, including the Cottonera Sports Complex, the University Sports Complex and the Marsa Sports Complex. Skolasport, once again sponsored by Kellogg’s, will re-open in October for its next edition.
