Prof. Mark Pearson, Head of Journalism at Bond University in Queensland, Australia, will be conducting a seminar with the theme “Introduction to Defamation and Contempt” on Wednesday 22 June at the New Dolmen Hotel in Qawra.

Prof. Pearson is the author of The Journalist’s Guide to Media Law, the main journalism law textbook used in Australia and he is also co-author of the high school guide Breaking into Journalism. He is a regular contributor to the national daily The Australian, of which he was editor for a number of years. and for 12 years has written a monthly column for the Pacific Area Newspapers Publishers Association Bulletin. He is a regular trainer of journalists for major Australian newspaper groups, particularly in the area of media law and ethics.

The seminar has been organised by the Tumas Fenech Foundation for Education in Journalism in collaboration with the Institute of Maltese Journalists. It starts at 9am and participation is free.
