Waterpolo: Top Teams expected to maintain winning streak

Malta Independent Friday, 24 June 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 21 years ago

The top four teams in the league standings should not find too much difficulty in maintaining their hundred per cent record when they play their third match in the preliminary round this weekend.

This evening, Sirens will be facing Exiles in the first match on the fixture list and should register their third successive win after beating Marsaxlokk and Valletta in the previous outings.

Following that, champions Sliema are also expected to beat lowly Marsaxlokk and maintain their place amongst the leading pack.

Both Exiles and Marsaxlokk lost heavily their first two matches.

Tomorrow, Neptunes may well preserve their unbeaten run also, although their derby match against neighbours San Giljan may prove a hard nut to crack. San Giljan look by far the best next team after the leading four and this encounter might well turn out to be the most enetrtaining of the weekend.

Prior to that, Marsascala, also with maximum points after two matches, start as favourites to beat Valletta.

Programme:

Today

Tal-Qroqq: 7pm Sirens-Exiles; 8pm Sliema-Marsaxlokk

Tomorrow

Tal-Qroqq: 6pm Valletta-Marsascala; 7pm San Giljan-Neptunes
