Malta will be fielding five athletes in today’s championships for European small nations being held in Luxembourg.

They are Marylynn Bezzina, Mark Zammit, David Galea, Gordon Camenzuli and Michael Gellel.

Marylynn Bezzina standing a good chance of finishing ahead of her Monagesque rivals and winning bronze behind the Luxembourg pair.

In the Men’s event, Malta’s best athlete is Mark Zammit, who should be able to stay with the top athletes until the cycle segment of the race but who may lose ground in the final segment, which is the 10km run.

Malta’s other athletes, David Galea, Gordon Camenzuli and Michael Gellel will all be giving their maximum to win Malta’s other potential medal – a bronze in the team event.

Elizabeth May, the athlete from Luxembourg who finished eighth at the Athens Olympics last year, will be taking part in the these championships.

Thirty five athletes from Cyprus, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco and Luxembourg are taking part in the event.

Malta’s contingent has been assisted by Air Malta, the MOC and the Kunsill Malti ghall-Isport.
