Sliema Wanderers and Hibernians will play the final match of the Euro Challenge Cup this evening at Ta’ Qali (kick-off 8pm) to determine the winners of the first honour of the new season.
A draw would hand the Wanderers the trophy since they enjoy the better goal difference after beating Birkirkara 3-0 in the first match.
On Wednesday, Hibernians also beat the Stripes but with a narrower 2-1 margin.
The Paolites’ defence must be on the alert and produce a more solid performance after surviving some real scares against Birkirkara.
Sliema’s striking force is really formidable with Woods, Doncic, Anonam or Bogdanovic all capable of taking what chances come their way.
Hibernians are also lethal up front, able to frustrate opposing defences with the agility of the likes of Cohen, Scerri or Pullicino. Despite a very quiet debut against Birkirkara, Haruna Doda cannot surely be taken lightly and is expected to show all his talent in this final match.
Sliema’s defenders Di Lello, Said and Chetcuti are in for a hard time, in their bid to win this first honour.
Therefore an entertaining and high-scoring match might be in the offing.
Both teams, as well as Birkirkara, will start their European commitments in UEFA competitions next week.
