French Goalie for Birkirkara

Malta Independent Saturday, 9 July 2005, 00:00 Last update: about 20 years ago

A French goalkeeper, Francois Dubardau, is expected to become Birkirkara’s third foreign player for the coming season.

The goalie is being given a trial by the Stripes who have given up hopes of registering Portuguese midfielder NunoGomes.

It is understood that negotiations stalled over what the Stripes claimed were fresh demands by the player’s agent when Gomes was about to sign the agreement.

The player is now expected to sign for Marsaxlokk.

The Stripes made their move for a new goalkeeper after Justin Haber remained adamant to try to move abroad. In fact, the goalie had been offered a five-year deal to stay with the Stripes, but he is hoping to find a club abroad.

The French goalie will be joining another newcomer between the Stripes posts, Ivan Casha, who has joined the club from Marsaxlokk. Dubardau was on the books of Scotland’s Premier League side Dundee until the past season, though he was not a regular first team player. He had also played for Kilmarnock in Scotland in the past.

The other two foreigners in the Stripes fold for this season will be Nigerian midfielder Precious Monye, who has been confirmed and has now started training, and Bulgarian central defender, Emil Yanychev.
