Spielberg Filming in Valletta today

Steven Spielberg, the world-renowned film director, will continue to shoot scenes from his coming blockbuster around Valletta today. Provisionally entitled Vengeance the film tells the story of the Palestinian attack on the Israeli athletes at the Munich Olympic Games in 1972.

Today’s filming is believed to be concentrated around Palace Square. Scenes from the film have already been shot in Rabat, Bugibba and in other parts of Valletta. The baroque background will substitute an Italian town in the film and street names and shop banners have all been changed to Italian. The shooting of the film has also led to the temporary dismantling of decorations put up in preparation for the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel later this week. The Malta Transport Authority notifies that the following streets in Valletta will be closed to vehicular traffic and no parking will be allowed during the mentioned dates and times:

Today from 6 to 8pm in Republic Street from corner with Old Theatre Street to corner with Archbishop Street; Old Theatre Street from corner with Republic Street to corner with St Paul Street; Merchant Street from corner with Old Theatre Street and Palace Square Car Park.

From 7am to 8pm in Old Theatre Street from corner with Old Bakery Street to corner with Merchants Street; Republic Street from corner with St John Street to corner with Old Theatre Street; Republic Street from corner with St John Street to corner with Old Theatre Street.

Traffic will be controlled intermittently in Sta Lucia Street, St John Street, Melita Street and South Street all from corner with Republic Street.
