A table laid on the Table of the House by Education Minister Louis Galea proved that the pass rates in the Junior Lyceum exam have been rising steadily over the years.
In 1995 the pass rate was 50 per cent. It rose to 52.85 per cent in 1996, declined to 52.11 per cent in 1997, and rose slightly to 52 per cent in 1998. It then slumped to 50.54 per cent in 1999, rose to 51.69 per cent in 2000, then to 54.67 per cent in 2001, declined to 53.7 per cent in 2002, rose to 55.2 per cent in 2003, declined slightly to 54.1 per cent last year and shot up to 60.4 per cent this year.
