Other Maltese participants in the UEFA Cup, Hibernians, suffered a 3-0 defeat in Nicosia against experienced Cypriot side Omonia yesterday.

The Cypriots went ahead on the half hour through Mguni and just after the restart they doubled their lead with another Jozef Koselj goal.

A Georgios Vakouvittis penalty six minutes from the end, punished further the Maltese side who now face an almost unsurmountable task in the return leg.
