Maltese shooter William Chetcuti (right) yesterday added to his achievements so far by winning the silver medal in the European Juniors Championships held in Belgarde, after placing second in the Double Trap competition.
Chetcuti was only one clay short of gold. He hit 46 clays out of the initial 50 and 45 in the second shoot of 50. In the third shoot, Chetcuti hit 47 clays to qualify for the final barrage, trailing the leading German shooter by only four clays.
Chetcuti hit 47 clays for a total of 185 out of 200, finishing an honourable second after the German competitor hit 44 clays in the final barrage to claim gold with a total of 186.
In the Trap competition, other Maltese shooters, Anthony Bugeja, Stanley Cardona and Nicky Carabott were also taking part as well as Jason Sciberras in the Skeet competition.
Next Wednesday, William Chetcuti will take part in this year’s World Cup, also to be held in Belgrade.
