Both Sliema and Sirens, joint leaders after last weekend’s preliminary round
matches, will hope to go out unscathed after other stern tests this weekend and extend their unbeaten run.
Due to some changes in the original fixtures, three matches will be played this evening at the National Pool at Tal-Qroqq.
The first, at 6pm, is the encounter between bottom clubs Marsaxlokk and Valletta. The first points are at stake after both teams lost all their five matches so far this season.
Exiles and San Giljan follow suite.
After both teams registered their first wins last weekend against Valletta and Marsaxlokk respectively, a win for any one of them, will boost their prospects for the coming commitments in the next phase.
Neptunes and Sirens will provide the main attraction this evening.
The former, lost narrowly to champions Sliema last Friday after leading for most of the match.
They cannot afford another slip but will be expecting a tough challenge from the joint leaders, who, like Sliema, are still unbeaten. Sirens annulled Marsascala’s challenge last Saturday to confirm their potential.
The only match on tomorrow’s programme is the clash between Sliema and Marsascala.
The latter must surely show improvement in order to halt the champions’ unbeaten streak.
Sliema might well be on course for a runaway lead in this preliminary round.
Programme:
Today: 6pm – Marsaxlokk-Valletta;
7pm – Exiles-San Giljan;
8 pm – Neptunes-Sirens
Tomorrow: 7pm – Marsascala-Sliema
