Created for people with a keen cultural and musical awareness, Malta-based Awaken Events is taking its mission another step forward with the forthcoming Awaken Rock Parade, an event that will feature live performances from a number of local and foreign acts. While providing an important showcase opportunity for the participating bands, the event will also serve to expand Awaken’s public profile and potential as well as the artists’ own network of contacts. From a musical perspective, the event will also offer an insight into the diversity that exists within the rock sphere, from Ska to Alternative, Punk to Emo and Core to Classic Rock.
On Saturday, 23 July, Awaken Events will be presenting the first edition of the Awaken Rock Parade at the Basketball Pavilion in Ta’ Qali; a concert that will feature four of Malta’s most promising acts as well as six other upcoming acts from all over Europe. Anyone who is into rock music will appreciate the event as a great opportunity to spend a day out and hear some great rock music that stretches across the rock spectrum! The Maltese bands performing include Bitterside, whose album Somehow Different helped to consolidate their popularity as one of the island’s top live acts; Loathe, one of the more significant hardcore acts around; Frenzy Mono, the young band that has been thrilling audiences with their eclectic live sets and finally, Boys Next Door, the most veteran of the participating local bands, whose CV includes backing star blues guitarist Gwyn Ashton and Krokus frontman Marc Storace!
The foreign input of the event comes mainly from two labels – Engineer Records (UK) and Rockhit Records (Germany). The fact that such labels, known for their proficiency in supporting upcoming rock talent, are supporting Awaken Events’ efforts adds to the appeal of both the organisation and the event, and the performance of each of the six foreign bands should definitely go down well with the Maltese rock crowd!
