A few days ago the Floriana FC nursery held its annual activity during which a presentation is made to honour former Floriana FC players. This time it was the turn of Freddie Vella James to receive this honour. Vella James played for Floriana for 12 consecutive seasons between 1955 and 1967. During this period he won two league championships, the FA Trophy three times, twice the Scicluna Cup and twice the Cassar Cup.

At the end of the 1958-59 season Vella James won the prestigious MFA Footballer of the Year award, the second Floriana player to do so. Dr Hugh Peralta and Joe Debattista, chairman and vice-chairman of the nursery talked about the significance of this activity and about Vella James’s contribution in the rich history of the club.

On his part Vella James spoke of the importance of skills training from a very young age. At the end of the activity, Vella James was presented with gifts by two young nursery players. Present for the activity were nursery committee members, coaches, parents and a good number of nursery boys.
