Darryl and Marcus Delicata and Rosanne Dimech and Sanya Yukic won the men’s and ladies’ Doubles finals of the Dedicated Micros Doubles Open organised by the Vittoriosa Lawn Tennis Club recently.

In the ladies’ final, Rosanne Dimech and Sanya Yukic prevailed against Esther Muscat and Christine Schembri in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 mainly due to the winners’ more determined play throughout. The presentation of cash and trophies was held at the Orienta court.

In the men’s final held on the Maltacom centre court, the Delicata brothers, Darryl and Marcus, overcame stiff resistance from Matthew Debono and Philip Zarb Mizzi in a game continually applauded by the sizeable crowd present. Final result: 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. Prize-money and trophies were presented to the winners.

Earlier, in the semi-final stage, the Delicata brothers prevailed over Brian Tonna and Gordon Asciak, in three sets (4-6, 7-6, 6-1).

One cannot but comment on the performance of the remarkable Gordon Asciak whose talent and enthusiasm delighted the crowd, reminding it of the good old days when this amiable player occupied the top place in local tennis for a long, long time.
