In yesterday's events at the FISEC games being held in Madrid, the Maltese youths continued with the streak of good results obtained in the first day, with some very good performances especially in athletics and swimming.

Athlete Lara Scerri won the gold medal in the 300m clocking 41.31 seconds, and the bronze in the 100m freestyle. Alistair Bezzina won the bronze in the 1500m.

Swimmer Kyle Scerri obtained two more medals yesterday winning the silver in the 200m butterfly and the bronze in the 100m freestyle. Nicole Cremona obtained a new record in her age group in the 50m backstroke.

In the ladies singles, Steffi Sullivan continued with her positive streak when she beat Velarde of Spain, 6-0, 6-0. On the other hand Kim Cassar had to bow out against another Spaniard, Santos, losing 6-7, 6-1, 6-7.

In the boys singles, Clayton Zammit was eliminated by Murillo of Spain, 4-6, 3-6, whilst in the all-Maltese clash Matthew Asciak had the better of Alan Calleja 6-0, 6-1.

In the doubles competition, Clayotn Zammit and Alan Calleja lost to the Spanish couple Nurillo-Carrascosa 5-9, with the Maltese couple still making it through to the next round thanks to earlier wins in the competition.

In the mixed doubles, Asciak and Sullivan were in a splendid form demolishing the Dutch couple Meijeren-Rutgers 9-1.

In the Handball event the boys team showed considerable improvement but still suffered the second consecutive defeat against Brazil 25-22.

The Maltese scorers were James Farrugia 10, Neville Borg 4, Matthew Psaila 3, Martin Pisani 2, Edward Bonello 2, and Chris Magro.

The Maltese Futsal team made it to the second round when they beat Italy 14-2, with Luka Desira Buttigieg scoring eight goals in the process.

The other goals for the Maltese came from Malcolm Cassar 2, Steve Borg, Warren Chircop, Luke Fenech and Lee Galea.

The girls' basketball team obtained the second consecutive victory, when they beat Italy 62-53, with Sarah Borg and Antoinette Borg the best scorers with 21 and 20 points respectively.
