FISEC Games: Two gold medals in tennis in final day

The 57th edition of the FISEC games came to an end yesterday with the closing ceremony.

The last day registered some positive results for the Maltese youngsters especially in tennis were malta captured two gold and two bronze.

In the mixed doubles Steffi Sullivan and Matthew Asciak defeated Van Meijeren and Routgers of the Netherlands 9-1 to claim the gold medal.

The other gold medal was obtained by Kim Cassar who paired with Spanish girl Santos to win the girls’ doubles competition. In the final they defeated the Dutch couple Van Zonnen-Visscher 6-1, 6-0.

The two bronze medals were obtained by the same Matthew Asciak and Steffi Sullivan in the individual competitions.

Asciak beat Murillo of Spain 6-1, 6-3, whilst Sullivan defeated Prieto of Spain 6-1, 6-2.

In other competitions, Malta won the bronze medal in the Futsal competition beating Holland 8-5 in the 3rd and 4th place play-off.

In basketball the Maltese girls failed to win the bronze medal when they were beaten by Spain B 48-56.

Next year’s edition of the FISEC games will be held in Hungary.
